If these don't ring a bell with you…. Where the hell have you been hiding? Under a rock perhaps?

Cable television has been an indispensable part of American homes that finding the best cable provider is discussed with the same reverence as finding a health care provider. Well, maybe I exaggerated a little. But you get the drift.

cheap cable tv service

In America, several names come to mind when talking about the best cable companies. BEST is sometimes relative. What may be the best for me may not be the best for you. It all depends on your preference. Would "best" be the cheapest, the clearest, the most channels? In my quest to find the best service in America, one name stood out, topping all criteria. It was by far the cheapest, the best quality, and the most channels for the price was Low Income Cable through Time Warner. There were other factors too that made Direct TV number one in my list but for purposes of variety, I made a list of the top 25 cable companies.

1. Low Income Cable – From Time Warner
Direct TV is by far the cheapest, the clearest, and has the most number of channels. Yes, I am switching first thing tomorrow morning. My cousin has this service and I am floored by the intelligent menu and the ease of navigation. You can easily operate it without reading any manuals. This is the iPhone of cable television. From first use, the menu made it easy for me to search for the shows I want to look for and to record shows I cannot watch live. Oh did I already mention cheap? I did? Well, let me say it again: IT IS CHEAP. But that does not at all diminish the quality of service. My cousin pays for half the amount I pay my crappy service provider… which i will no longer mention. Let's just say it starts with the letter V. Ooops!

2. COMCAST
Comcast is the one of the largest cable operators in America and even ventures into home security including burglar alarms, surveillance cameras, etc. Honestly? It's good. Clear and has a lot of channels too. But it is more expensive than Direct TV. I recommend this service provider IF YOU DON'T HAVE DIRECT TV in your are. Haha

3. DISH NETWORK CORPORATION
Better known as DISH offers satellite television, audio programming, and interactive television services. All good to have, all extra service…but my question is… why would I pay top dollar for these services I don't really need? And services my internet provider already has? Still, not bad. After all, it's third on my list. The service is a bit unstable sometimes though but Dish's owner Charlie Ergen has said that updating the company's technology is high on the priority list. I found the best offers for Dish on Cabletvspecials.com

4. TIME WARNER
This company came from Time Warner (the film and television company) but has since been operating as its own company. As such, it no longer has ties to national cable channels such as HBO or CNN. Again, not bad.

5. COX COMMUNICATIONS
Cox offers affordable packages but the menu gave me headaches. I feel this is the most difficult to navigate menu. While most cable providers have similar operating systems, theirs was simply a leap backwards. Like 20 years back.

6. VERIZON
Offers okay service but really a bit expensive. Not bad. But I just won't pay for more when I can get the same service or even better service for a fraction of the cost. Times are tough. Time to be smart.

7. CHARTER COMMUNICATION INC.
This is the company whose four former executives were indicted for false accounting in 2005. Service is good but I'm paranoid thinking if they will be overcharging to me the finance fail they made. It may seem totally unrelated but it's my choice and I am welcoming my paranoia.

8. AT&T
This isn't bad service. Seriously. I just find the addition of other channels in their service a bit expensive. Like adding Filipino and Indian channels would cost you double than what other companies charge.

9. CABLEVISION
It mainly services the areas surrounding New York City. They are okay but honestly, their internet service is way better that their cable service. And that's me being kind.

10. BRIGHT HOUSE NETWORKS
Brighthouse is the second largest cable operator in Florida. A lot of people prefer their services out there. It must be because their system is very advanced in that area including Alabama, Indiana, Michigan, and California. If you are in the above-mentioned places it's worth checking out their service for comparison.

11. SUDDENLINK COMMUNICATIONS
Operates many in 18 states of primarily medium-sized communities. Excellent customer service.

12. MEDIACOM COMMUNICATION CORPORATION
Largest cable company in Iowa and second largest in Illinois. As I do not reside in those places nor plan to move there, my opinions aren't very strong there.

13. CABLE ONE INC.
Cable One is a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company. Most of its subscribers are residents of small rural communities in 19 states. Clear and cheap but lacking in channel choices.

14. WIDEOPEN WEST NETWORKS
The respected Consumer Reports gave them accolades for top television and internet service in 2009. My reaction? 2009 was THREE YEARS AGO. Haha Kidding. :) This cable company is okay but not really innovating with the times anymore.

15. RCN CORP.
RCN Corp may not be the best out there but they offer competitive bundled service for phone, cable, television, and high-speed internet. This one is definitely worth checking out.

16. KNOLOGY HOLDINGS
Services mostly the Southern United States.

17. ATLANTIC BROADBAND GROUP
One of the largest cable providers in the United States. However, bear in mind that "largest" does not always mean "best".

18. ARMSTRONG CABLE SERVICES
ARMSTRONG is popular in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, and Kentucky.

19. MIDCONTINENT COMMUNICATIONS
If you're in North Dakota and South Dakota, check this service out. Their main selling point is what they call their "triple play" of cable television, cable modem internet, and cable telephone.
They also offer fiber-optic cable services for large companies.

20. SERVICE ELECTRIC CABLE TV
Service electric cable TV services Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey. PetnTeleData and Ironton Telephone are partner companies. Service electric does not carry LGBT-themed channels.

21. METROCAST CABLEVISION
Serving over 135 communities in the Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Hampshire, Connecticut, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, and Maine, Metrocast provides quality cable service with enough choices considering its price point. Another reason to support this cable provider which is not service-related is its corporate projects which include providing FREE high speed internet in every elementary, junior, and high school in the communities they serve.

22. BLUE RIDGE COMMUNICATIONS
If you're in the Poconos and Central Pennsylvania area, check this out. But seriously, who lives out there? Okay that was a bad joke. I apologize.

23. WAVE DIVISIONS HOLDINGS
Another one of those companies who offer bundled services. Not the best service but bearable. Mostly servicing the San Francisco Bay Area.

24. GENERAL COMMUNICATIONS
Okay, this I recommend to you If you ever find yourself deprived of sunshine in Alaska. Based in Anchorage, General Communications services around 75% of the Alaska residents. Plus points: they provide free over-the-air broadcasts to over 200 rural Alaskan communities.

25. BUCKEYE CABLE SYSTEM
Owned by Block Communications which also owns The Blade newspaper, this company is based in Toledo, Ohio. Service is not bad. But considering the limited choices they offer, prices are pretty steep.

Well, that's it folks! The 25 best cable companies in the country. Though truth be told, the rest aren't really considered the best… I just needed to fill the top 25. Some are area-specific like the cable company that services Alaska so I guess there's some merit in that. But I tell you, if you want low-cost cable television without sacrificing the cost, check out Low Income Cable.
